Visa extension procedures for foreign investors

A foreign investor is a person who establishes or contributes capital to a company in Vietnam. In order to ensure their right to do business and manage their company, according to Vietnamese law, they are eligible for a long-term visa or a temporary residence card.

In case a foreign investor applies for a visa, the longest visa is 1 year. When the visa expires, the foreign investor can choose to issue a new visa or extend it.

There are the following types of investment visas:

  1. Investment visa DT1 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution worth VND 100 billion or more or investing in priority industries and occupations. Investment incentives and investment incentive areas are decided by the Government.
  2. Investment visa DT2 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution worth from 50 billion VND to less than 100 billion VND or investing in the industry , occupations that encourage investment and development are decided by the Government.
  3. Investment visa DT3 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital worth from 03 billion VND to less than 50 billion VND.
  4. Investment visa DT4 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital worth less than 03 billion VND.

 

Documents for visa extension for foreign investors are as follows:

  1. Certified copy of Business License/Investment License/certificate of capital contribution/shares in the enterprise or another relevant document proving that the foreigner is an investor under regulations of Vietnamese enterprise and investment law.
  2. Certificate of seal sample registration or Notice of posting information about the enterprise’s seal sample on the national business registration portal.
  3. Form NA16 Registration form of seal and signature of the legal representative of an enterprise operating in Vietnam
  4. Form NA5 Application form for visa, visa, visa extension, extension of temporary residence for foreigners in Vietnam. Has the investor’s signature and a Vietnamese company stamp in red.
  5. Original passport still valid according to regulations
  6. Temporary residence registration form of foreigners

The place to submit visa extension applications for foreign investors is the Immigration Department or at the Immigration Department of the police of the province or city where the enterprise is headquartered.

Processing time for investor visa issuance: 05 working days.
