Procedures for extending a work visa for foreigners who have been granted a work permit

According to Vietnamese law, foreigners working in Vietnam for more than 3 months need to apply for a work permit in Vietnam. When having a work permit in Vietnam, foreigners can apply for a 2-year long-term temporary residence card or apply for a work visa with a maximum term of 1 year.

There are 02 types of work visa:

  1. LD1 Visa – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam with confirmation that they are not subject to a work permit, unless an international treaty to which Vietnam is a member has other provisions.”;
  2. LD2 Visa – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam who require a work permit.

Visa LD1, LD 2 are types of visas issued to foreigners working in Vietnam. A work visa has a maximum validity of 1 year (12 months). When it is about to expire, if you want to stay longer in Vietnam, you can apply for an extension for another 1 year.

Work visa extension documents include:

  1. The foreigner’s original passport is still valid
  2. Application form for visa and temporary residence extension according to form NA5 – original
  3. Work permit or work permit exemption letter – true copy
  4. Confirmation of temporary residence from the local police where the foreigner temporarily resides in Vietnam or a printed copy of the online declaration when registering for temporary residence online

The place to submit applications for business visa extension is the Immigration Department or Immigration Department
